Barrel of Pain (Half Life): Strand of Oaks {post#1}

To introduce this new Strand of Oaks blog, I thought, who better to do that than the dark prophetic poet named Graham Nash. I have been watching (what seems to be) a Congolese bootleg of the epic film, "No Nukes". Maybe its through my present struggles but I have been very intrigued by famous/beloved musicians at their absolute lowest creative point (this is only defined by my opinion). Whether this is caused by indulgence, laziness, apathy, or just plain megalomaniacal behavior, I think it is so interesting to see how far some can fall. I am currently in the process of hunting down examples of this. Any suggestions would be much appreciated and deeply discussed.

Please watch No Nukes. After viewing this movie, one will arrive at a very simple conclusion: mixing cocaine and being contagiously white only leads to the worst music ever made (may this serve as forewarning to the growing population of rhythmic suburbanites)

:notice the substance fueled paranoia woven so delicately into Nash's eloquent statement on the very timely concern of nuclear waste turning children into mutants, don't do drugs!!!:

I Can See The Writing On The Wall

I Can Hear The Axe Before It Falls

I Can Really Feel It Getting Through To Me

I Can See The Sea Begin To Glow

I Can Feel It Leaking Down Below!

I Can Barely Stand It

What You're Doing To Me

And In The Morning Will You Still Feel The Same?

How You Going To Keep Yourself From Going Insane

With Glowing Children And A Barrel Of Pain

-I Don't Want To Hear It!

I Can Feel The Heat Begin To Rise

I Can See The Vapors In My Eyes

Anyway You Look At This

It's Hard To Take

I Can Feel My Skin Begin To Peel

I Can See The Dollar And The Deal

I Can See The Companies That Are On The Make

And In The Morning Will You Still Feel The Same?

How You Going To Keep Yourself From Going Insane

With Glowing Children And A Barrel Of Pain

-I Don't Want To Hear It!

No, No, No, No!

My intentions of doing this is to simply have fun and to slightly inform on the happenings for Strand of Oaks. I would love any unique bits you have to give. This could really turn into anything, so that is especially exciting in rather boring times. Please check in for further unnecessary insights and lists.

Some news:

Strand of Oaks will be planning/playing more shows in the Spring. If you have any suggestions of towns that we may not have been to, please let us know.

Tim,

Saw your blogging and figured I would add a few recommendations. There are lots of really bad messes of albums out there by brilliant musicial geniuses. Try Elvis Costello's "Goodbye Cruel World", even Elvis himself can't stand that one. Strangely enough, I sorta like it. For someone hitting a personal bottom, and trying career sabotage, yet transcending and making something totally brillant try Big Star's "Third", if you haven't already. For all out zaniness track down a bootleg of Brian Wilson's physical fitness/big band album "Adult Child". One more that is really bad but somewhat awesome, try getting your hands on Van Morrison's Bang Records Contractual Obligation Session. There's a track on it called "Ringworm" for God's sake!
